BIOMIMICRY
Biomimicry describes humans utilizing natures methods and strategies in order to solve issues to make quality of living better for the human population. This term is mostly used when taking a design from some form of nature and applying it to society in order to improve our life. Biomimicry has been used for thousands of years as a way for other species to learn, grow, and evolve. Looking into the amazing adaptation that these beetles have made is fascinating and using this technology could be a huge breakthrough to solve our worlds problems. Many of us today do not think of the role that insects play and the advantages they posses for our society.
These Beetles have made an amazing adaptation with the ability to create a water source in an environment where water is not readily available, this feat is simply amazing and has allowed survival to take place where it would otherwise not be possible. By mimicking the design of the Namib Desert Beetle as a sustainable water source it creates a connection between humans and this small insect. Looking and studying Insects, who have been around much longer than humans is a geniuous way to survive in a world that lives by the rule of survival of the fittest. This beetle has evolved for the sole purpose of being able to produce offspring with that ability to survive and thrive passing down successful genes to future offspring. Due to the extremely dry climate, the beetle has made adaptations such as longer legs, and a shell adapted to collect the fog in the air to help produce a future water source for itself. Now, many years later this beetle has adapted to the climate and made life possible in these harsh conditions. Humans have studied this process and are utilizing what nature has shown us as an amazing technique for survival. Nature is providing us with all of the answers we need to not just survive, but excel and thrive in environments that simply would be impossible otherwise. There are many species that have the ability to survive in the dry desert setting. After looking and studying the Namib Desert Beetle it would be wise to look around and study how we as humans can also use their techniques and adaptations to survive under the same conditions. In areas that are occupied by human populations but are too dry and are do not have flowing water at their disposal, water collecting tools and ways to access water these helpful tool are needed. A large population of the world has a tough time getting water suitable for drinking, and it has become a huge health issue worldwide. With the technology we have collected and that has helped us invent the "Dew Bank" has potential to be revolutionary and make life possible in places that otherwise would serve no opportunity for life.
